Men’s Healthy Living Program (MHLP)

  • The focus of the Men’s Healthy Living Program (MHLP) is to provide services to Indigenous men who are wanting to make positive lifestyle changes as role models within the family unit and as agents of change within the community.

 

  • MHLP provides a variety of services, such as advocacy, support, counselling, as well as access to a Cultural Advisor, resources, and community services.

Criteria

Services will be provided to men and their families who:

  • are of Indigenous ancestry (First Nations, Métis, and Inuit);
  • reside in the City of Winnipeg; and
  • are eighteen years of age or older.
 
 
 
 

Support

Our program provides:

  • access to cultural counselling and traditional healing;
  • Sharing and Teaching Circles, cultural education, and crafts;
  • advocacy with other community agencies;
  • support in setting and achieving goals; and
  • referrals and resources to access other services such as education, training, employment, housing, and cultural resources, as well as health and social services.

How do I become a Constituent?2023-01-09T20:36:04-06:00

1) If you are an Indigenous person living in the city of Winnipeg and do not currently have a family doctor, you can be added to our waitlist by contacting our clinic.

2) You may also be eligible to have a family doctor at our clinic if one of our four priority categories applies to you: OAT Support, Pregnancy, Homelessness, and HIV Care.

3) If none of the above categories apply to you, you can still be added to our wait list.

4) With our Nurse-Care Model, a nurse can help with the following:

Vaccinations
Wound care
STIBBI Testing/Treatment
Pap Tests
MSP Detox Forms
Bloodwork

Education: On a host of health services, chronic disease, maternal care etc.

Aboriginal Health and Wellness Primary Care Clinic provides primary care services to our Urban Indigenous relatives of all ages in the City of Winnipeg. Our clinic provides culturally informed safe healthcare environment for constituents and their families. We believe to achieve your best possible health, a balance between the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual well being, is each constituents right and we are here to help by offering holistic wraparound care within our multidisciplinary team. We build partnerships with other community agencies and health care professionals to respond to your needs and advocate on your behalf when faced with barriers to health care.

Our services include family physicians for all ages; chronic disease management, reproductive health (STBBI testing/treatment, pap tests, pre/postnatal care), addictions (OAT), vaccinations, blood work, wound care, MSP Detox forms, education, DBT therapy, diabetes management, HIV screening and management, mental health care and access to a range of programs. that focus on the social determinants of health across the life spans.
