About the Safer Consumption Site
The Aboriginal Health & Wellness Centre's Indigenous-led Safer Consumption Site (SCS) provides low-barrier, culturally safe, and trauma-informed care for people who use substances. Grounded in harm reduction and AHWC's holistic Medicine Wheel philosophy, the site offers a welcoming, judgment-free environment where every participant is treated with dignity, respect, and compassion.
We recognize that each person's healing journey is unique. Whether someone is seeking safer substance use supports, connections to treatment, healthcare, or other vital resources, we meet people where they are and walk alongside them at their own pace.
Our Services
The Safer Consumption Site is designed to provide more than immediate harm reduction. As the permanent facility opens, services will expand to include on-site Primary Care and Rapid Access to Addictions Medicine (RAAM), making it easier for participants to access life-saving, comprehensive healthcare in one location.
Participants can access a range of integrated supports, including:
-
Supervised consumption services
-
Drug checking
-
Harm reduction supplies and safer use education
-
Overdose prevention and emergency response
-
Wound care and basic health assessments
-
System navigation and referrals to Primary Care, Rapid Access to Addictions Medicine (RAAM), mental health, housing, and other community services

Research & Reports
Research helps identify barriers to healthcare access, improve health outcomes, guide public education, and strengthen connections to housing, primary care, and cultural supports.
By combining lived experience, Indigenous knowledge, and healthcare research, we can continue evolving to provide compassionate, dignified, and community-driven care that supports the wellbeing of all relatives.
